Applying templates to DNS requests

Learn how to apply DNS record templates to DNS requests

Templates let you start new DNS requests with prefilled records, so you can skip repetitive setup work and keep configurations consistent.

Apply a template when creating a request

  1. Go to DNS Requests and click New request.
  2. Enter the domain or subdomain.
  3. Open the Template dropdown.
  4. Select the template you want to use.
  5. Click Save to create the request.

The DNS records from the template will appear automatically in the request.

Review and adjust records

After applying a template, you can:

  • Add, edit, or delete individual records as needed.
  • Change values to match the specific domain.
  • Confirm that optional fields like TTL are correct.

Changes you make here affect only this request, not the original template.

When to apply templates

Use templates whenever you have a standard set of DNS records to add, such as:

  • When creating recurring setups (e.g., email, CDN, staging).
  • When standardizing records across multiple domains.
  • When onboarding new clients who need the same DNS configuration.

Using templates ensures every request starts from a known, verified configuration.
